The KulturBotschaft, formerly known as Max-Senf-bookstore (with the slogan: since 1875 in the service of the book) is a venue for projects, a "Permanent Representation“8 Botschaft = embassy)  of the cultural scene of the region, then: Berlin,  Wittenberg’s "sister cities" and the world.

It’s a place of respect. This central "abode of spiritual strength" in the former Jewish quarter, located between two Christian churches and the former observatory helps us to understand history and to experience directly how history imprints on our life here and now.

The property is the family of a rich family named Krapp

who were important players in the city life of Wittenberg already in the early 14th century.Even during his lifetime Melanchthon was known as Praeceptor Germaniae ("Germany’s teacher“On this property, Melanchthon married Katharina Krapp, daughter of the mayor and robe-maker Hans Krapp. Katharina and Philipp were of similar age and had four children. Philipp Melanchthon also made a major contribution to the reorganization and design of the education system. He worked tirelessly to set up municipal schools and to reestablish and reform universities. Through him Wittenberg University became a model for Protestant university education.

The KulturBotschaft ( = "Embassy of culture") is a non-profit charitable foundation based in Lutherstadt Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt, a 35 minutes train-trip South of Berlin, and North of Leipzig.

The main building and ‘base camp’ of the KulturBotschaft – Dialog der Weltanschauungen (dialogue of worldviews) lies directly opposite the town and parish church of St. Mary’s, the building adjacent to Luther‘s pulpit, but already belongs to the ‘Jewish quarter’.

‘500 years of the posting of the theses’ offers the opportunity to wake Wittenberg from its slumber with a kiss of life, well beyond the Reformation anniversary.

In a response to this a number of events are organized in the KulturBotschaft. The old "Max-Senf-House" is going to be a venue for projects, a "Permanent Representation" of the cultural scene of Berlin, of Wittenberg’s sister cities and the world. A place of respect.
